just take it or leave it

With all the running I’ve been doing lately, my body has been craving carbs in the worst way.  It’s also been craving fruit! Add onto that the fact I’ve got about seven yogurt tins that need to be consumed in the next four days, and I think you’ll see why I dug into this breakfast with gusto:
I had a Thomas Cinnamon Raisin English Muffin with Smart Balance and honey, with Fage 2% Greek Yogurt mixed with 1 Fuji Apple and 1/4 c Nature’s Path Omega Flax Pumpkin Granola.

Usually when I have yogurt and an apple, I thinly slice the apple and dunk it into the yogurt like a dip (I love dipping things, as you’ll see with my lunch!).  But I realized my breakfast total was only around 340, which would not keep me full until lunchtime at all.  I pulled out the Nature’s Path Granola, dumped it into the yogurt along with the apple, and mixed it up.

I hadn’t had the Thomas Cinnamon Raisin before (I LOVE their Light and multi-grain options), and I was not disappointed.  The raisins stayed plump after I toasted the bread, and the cinnamon was sweet enough to be memorable.  The Nature’s Path Granola kind of disappointed me.  What I thought would be a pumpkin pie party in my yogurt turned out to be a generic granola sprinkled liberally with pumpkin seeds.  It was still delicious, but I was looking for something sweeter.

Mondays are my day off, so I spent the morning running errands.  While going to the bank and doing my laundry, I broke into another Sobe 0 Calorie Lifewater, this time the Black Cherry Dragonfruit.

Holy crap, this stuff was strong.  The black cherry flavor was overpowering! Overall, I liked it, but it bore a funky aftertaste that deters me from purchasing it again.  I have a few more flavors to try, but so far the Strawberry one from yesterday is winning the battle.

When I got back from my errands, I defrosted another slice of Great Harvest Dakota Bread, then cut it in half (one loaf yields 16 very thick slices, so they’re easily cut in half to make a small sandwich).  I put Boar’s Head Turkey Breast and a Pepper Jack Veggie Slice on top and served it with 1/2 Red Bell Pepper w/ 1tbsp Woodland Farms Almond Butter.

I’ve been putting almond butter on everything lately.

That little plate at the end there is my dessert (I told you, I need something sweet after every single meal!) I enjoyed a fresh apricot, 6 Archer Farms Dried Mango Slices, and 1tbsp melted Maranatha Dark Chocolate Almond Spread, aka THE GREATEST THING YOU WILL EVER EAT.

This stuff is Godlike.  Think Nutella, but all-natural and with a rich almond flavor instead of the bold hazelnutty one.  Oh my GOSH! And it melts beautifully, and drizzled all over the mango and apricot it was a truly decadent dessert.
All in all my lunch clocked in at about 540 calories, which is only about 60 calories more than I usually eat at lunch.  But after eating a fat-filled lunch yesterday, I realized that a little extra packed in there kept me satisfied until dinnertime and I didn’t feel the need to wolf down my entire kitchen.  I ate my dessert, and was fine.
I’m actually going to try and not have dessert tonight, because tomorrow I’m planning to head into New York City to have dinner at my friend’s weekly dinner party.  It’s a three course extravaganza and I’m pretty sure something she serves will involve cheese, so I have to bolster my stomach and get it ready for a full scale assault!
Another reason I’m heading into the city is to say goodbye.  One of my best friends from high school is leaving the country to teach art to children in Sri Lanka! How inspiring can you get? I’m so proud of her and all that she’s accomplishing; I wish I were brave enough to leave America and do something like that.  Maybe one day!
Off to squeeze in a quick 3-miler, then meet up with my best friend Connie for yoga! Connie is my partner in yogi crime, and expect to see her face on here along with our yoga story tonight!
I love this blog already.
